Adults, too, are frequently affected by a wide variety of misaligned teeth. In order to avoid secondary conditions and to create an aesthetic smile, we advise our patients to have malocclusions corrected as promptly as possible. Whether crooked teeth, gaps between teeth or a misaligned bite - braces for adults offer you an effective solution for correcting your teeth.

What are the benefits of braces for adults?

Wearing braces offers a number of benefits in adulthood as well: your dental and jaw health can be improved considerably through appropriate treatment. With us you receive braces that are individually tailored to you. That makes treatment particularly effective.

Braces are especially useful when your teeth have shifted as a result of periodontitis or of uneven loading, as is the case with teeth grinding, for example. Further consequences, such as tooth loss, can be prevented in this way. As an adult you can of course also have malocclusions treated that you already had as a child - with braces you can, for example, correct an overbite that has been present for a long time. Gaps between teeth can also be closed with braces.

Dr. Hakim and his team will be happy to advise you on this.

The benefits of braces at a glance:

  • Improvement of your dental and jaw health
  • Many options for correcting your teeth
  • Secondary conditions caused by malocclusions can be prevented
  • Preventing unwanted migration of the teeth
  • Moving the teeth into the desired positions

What types of braces for adults are there?

Alongside removable braces, fixed braces for adults are a particularly effective aid for correcting your teeth. They are attached to your teeth in different ways - depending on the appliance chosen. So-called brackets (small “parts”) made of metal, ceramic or well-tolerated plastic, together with the wire connected to them, move your teeth into the desired position. There are various options for braces for adults, which we select together with you individually according to your wishes and needs:

Fixed braces for adults on the outside of the teeth

Braces in Frankfurt are among the most proven methods for treating mild to severe malocclusions. With fixed braces we can also treat those misaligned teeth that would no longer respond sufficiently to other treatment methods, such as aligners.

Lingual braces for adults

Lingual braces are likewise one of the fixed types of braces. Here, however, the brackets are not bonded to the front of your teeth but to the back, and the wire connects the teeth via the brackets on the inside. These braces offer you an aesthetic advantage above all. They are barely visible to others, while achieving results of similar effectiveness to conventional fixed braces.

Removable braces for adults

There is also the treatment option of removable braces. Particularly popular here are so-called invisible braces (aligners/ Invisalign). These are aligners made of plastic. Because of their transparent material, Invisalign or aligner trays are barely visible while being worn. Aligners are suitable for correcting almost any malocclusion. You can remove them at any time without having to come into the practice for it. This can be practical when eating or at important appointments, for example.

Treatment process for braces for adults

At our orthodontic practice we offer you various options for braces for adults. Accordingly, the treatment process also differs in its details. Whichever braces you decide on, we are happy to take plenty of time for you in order to accompany you step by step on the way to even, aesthetic teeth.

Braces for adults - explained in 5 steps

Step 1: Initial consultation:

In a detailed initial consultation we explain to you how braces for adults work and which options we can offer you. In doing so you gain a first impression of how we work and can of course ask us questions at any time.

Step 2: Precise examination and diagnosis:

Next, a thorough examination of your teeth takes place. This is an important step, because only in this way can we adapt the corrective appliance precisely to you and your needs. We carry out the examination using modern imaging methods, such as 3D scans and digital visualizations. Your teeth are assessed throughout by experienced orthodontists. This examination is the basis for your treatment plan and all further steps.

Step 3: 3D visualization of your teeth:

Thanks to innovative 3D technology, it is possible for us to represent your teeth virtually. This detailed representation allows us to plan your desired treatment result particularly precisely. Even before the treatment, we can use artificial intelligence (AI-based planning) to give you an approximate picture of your future straight teeth. We also show you how your face and smile can look with the new teeth.

Step 4: Receiving your braces:

In a further appointment you receive your braces, which are fitted exactly to your teeth.

Step 5: Wear instructions and check-up appointments:

Braces for adults should be checked regularly by your orthodontist. Depending on the corrective appliance model chosen, wearing the braces can take a different form. The check-up appointments also vary in their frequency. As a rule, the appointments take place every 6-8 weeks.

Treatment duration with braces for adults in the case of malocclusion

The duration of the treatment depends on the diagnosis, that is, on the severity of the malocclusion. The choice of braces also plays a role: with aligners, in the case of purely aesthetic corrections, the treatment can sometimes take only a few weeks. Treating severe malocclusions can take up to 3 years.

FAQs - frequently asked questions about braces for adults

What does treatment with braces for adults cost?

The cost varies depending on the treatment method, which is why we cannot quote you a specific figure here. You are very welcome to contact us personally to arrange an initial consultation with us. Afterwards we will put together a no-obligation estimate for you - tailored to your individual needs.

Does statutory health insurance cover fixed braces for adults?

In the vast majority of cases, statutory health insurance unfortunately does not cover braces for adults. Fixed braces for adults are only funded for you if surgery for dysgnathia is also considered necessary. Treatment with aligners is not funded by statutory health insurance. We are happy to explain the costs and your personal cost plan to you in a personal conversation.

Which type of braces is best suited to me?

Which braces are best suited to you depends entirely on the condition of your teeth as well as on your expectations of the treatment. When it comes to correcting teeth as an adult, the wish for the correction to be invisible may play a major role for you - in that case aligners or lingual braces may be a suitable option for you. If you would like severe malocclusions treated effectively and more quickly, fixed braces are probably the most suitable option. Together, in a detailed personal conversation, we find out what you feel most comfortable with.
